Reports to Title: Manager, Shipping and Receiving


Working under minimal supervision of the Manager of Shipping & Receiving, the Shipping Supervisor oversees and facilitates the daily shipping operation and ensures work is done in a safe, timely and accurate manner. Develops direct reports through one to one meetings, yearly reviews, and on floor management. Works to continuously improve the utilization of manpower, operational procedures, and automation. 


Where applicable, this position assures departmental processes are performed in compliance with applicable Sarbanes-Oxley controls.

 

Responsibilities

Primary Job Duties
• Coordinates the shipping team’s daily activities, including running start up meetings, managing the workload throughout the different areas of the operation. Resolves production problems and ensures all functional tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Develops direct reports, including one-on-one discussions, training, interacting with employees in their work space, yearly performance reviews, off the floor counseling, etc. Provides continuous feedback to associate to let them know if they are meeting the expectations of the department.
• Handles all assigned employee HR/Payroll related activities in a timely and accurate manner including weekly time and attendance monitoring and approval; hiring, performance management, and employee relations.
• Collects and communicates relevant shipping data to aid in analyzing its impact on the shipping operation on a daily basis. Tracks individual and team performance for use in forecasting employee needs and operational trends.
• Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned.

• Basic computer knowledge with ability to operate keyboard for data entry.
• Systems experience with E1, RF Barcoding Technology, and Material Handling Systems
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Filemaker Databases
• Leadership skills with ability to manage and develop a team

• Strong understanding of and working knowledge of a distribution center, shipping environment.

• Inventory accuracy and control; Understands receiving, put-away, picking, shipping, cycle counting, serial-number control, discrepancy resolution, and inventory accuracy requirements.
• Performance & KPI Management; Ability to understand and manage performance through measurable indicators such as productivity, accuracy, on-time shipping, attendance, safety, inventory accuracy, and labor utilization.
• Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis; Identifies operational issues, determines root causes, implements corrective actions, and follows through to ensure problems do not recur.
• Quality & Continuous Improvement; Looks for opportunities to improve processes, reduce errors, eliminate waste, increase productivity, and improve customer experience.

The work environment for this position is a typical: Warehouse/Distribution Center

The general physical requirements for this position are listed below.
Individuals require the ability to be on their feet for their entire shift walking throughout the Distribution Center and/or standing to perform daily functions. The employee will be required also to frequently reach and bend, occasionally squat, and may be required to climb small ladders throughout the day. Fine motor skills are used to operate a computer keyboard, RF Terminal device, forklift activation controls and wireless hand scanners. These skills may be heavy during the day. Near visual acuity and mental focus needed for working with the computer devices, receiving labels, forklift operation and while handling inventory items throughout the day.
