Working under general supervision of the Senior Director, Data Engineering, relying on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals, the Principal Data Engineer performs complex data and application integration activities as the highest technical level in support of all corporate information systems across multiple database platforms. Responsibilities include working with business partners on solution design for new or modified database systems as well as integrating database systems. The Principal functions as a lead in technical design and development on large projects by providing direction to other resources and promoting the goal of process improvement. Trains and mentors less experienced developers via formal knowledge transfer workshops and one-on-one sessions. Leads complex production support initiatives and applies long term solutions as appropriate.
| • | Develops database integration solutions including requirement specifications, impact analysis, functional and technical design, programming, documentation, testing, data conversion, and implementation.

| • | Provides accurate scope analysis and estimates for large projects. | |
| • | Completes documentation of technical specifications, deployment documents and support procedure manuals. | |
| • | Establishes and maintains partnerships with various lines of business to facilitate system design and support activities as well as working closely with all IT teams to facilitate collaboration on projects and production support. | |
| • | Leads complex production support initiatives and applies long term solutions as appropriate. | |
| • | Leads development initiatives as technical lead; fills in for the manager as needed | |
| • | Leads technical resources on major projects, including design sessions and development activities | |
| • | Provides technical leadership and mentoring to help developers improve their skills.

| • | Provides project status reports and attends team meetings to keep project leads and managers apprised of work progress. | |
| • | Provides on-call support for the database integration solutions; develops long term solutions to minimize recurring support calls. | |
| • | Identifies opportunities for process improvements and lead efforts to implement solutions. | |
| • | Tracks project hours in time management software. | |
| • | Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned. |
• Advanced working knowledge of SQL Programming Language skills.
• Advanced working knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle Relational Database Systems knowledge as well as cloud data solutions such as Databricks.
• Advanced working knowledge of multiple data integration tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Databricks Transformation capabilities and replication engines.
• Strong working knowledge of Source Control Applications such as GIT or Bitbucket.
• Strong working knowledge of Principles and techniques of the application development process.
• Strong working knowledge of Principles and techniques of system integration and software dependencies.
• Strong working knowledge of Logical and physical database design concepts.
• Exposure to all major PCC database systems and business processes.
• Strong working knowledge of Business Intelligence application such as Microsoft Power BI.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently while adhering to company policies and standards.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to interface effectively and cooperatively with business partners and co-workers.
• Manages multiple projects concurrently.
